More Appliqued Tee's

The girls wanted tee shirts like their brothers. One of my daughters picked out a cupcake. We used this for the inspiration.

I made the bird out of the left over scraps that had the fusible interfacing on it.

Both girls are very happy with them. I still need to stitch around them. Kirsten recommended I used the double sided interfacing so I could skip the pinning part. (I knew about it, but didn't have on hand when I did my son's spider shirt.) Worked like a charm. Now I have a ton of it left so I see lots of shirts and things in the future. Fun quick project to involve the kids in!

Reconstructed Tee

Last night I wanted to sew something quick and easy, but since my kids were asleep (as the normally are when I sew) I wanted it to be out of fabric that I didn't care about at all.



I had been keeping an UGLY tee shirt that was given to me for just a project and had been thinking up a way to repurpose it.


First I cut out the large 80's graphic (trust me it wasn't cool 80's) and then cut what I had left in strips. I used kept the neck as it was and hoped it would look like a cute scoop neck on her.


Then just gathered the strips and added them to the top. Easy as pie. I think it took me 20 mins total.  I think it's a fun little play dress.

I'm off to pack up for a picnic with one of my college friends. Should be fun to catch up and let the kids play!

Are you guys getting tired of seeing our FHE's?

I'll stop posting them if you are. I just know I'm always looking for fun FHE's for my kids.
Well, our lesson this week was "I love to read the holy scriptures" We asked the kids who their favorite person in the scriptures was.
I had cut pieces of upholstery weight fabric before hand and gave them pens to draw their favorite people. I told them that I was going to turn the fabric into bookmarks for their scriptures. (I was inspired by this project where they made embroidered self portrait bookmarks.)
My daughter said Mary was her favorite because she was Jesus's mom. (She picked the blond hair. Although I'm sure Mary didn't have blond hair, I just went with it. ) Jesus in in her arms in the picture in case you can't tell.


Naturally my son chose "the guy with the sword" which could be a number of people. That's a sword in his hand, not a wand. In case you can't tell.

After they drew their pictures, we did our scripture study from our Book of Mormon Stories book. And while they were sleeping I watched One Tree Hill and embroidered what they drew.

SIDE NOTE: I know, I know. You're thinking, One Tree Hill? Really? My cute sister in law got me hooked. She let me borrow all the seasons and now I have to know what happens. My husband tells me that I need to stop watching it since I haven't been in high school for 10 years, but Hello they're not in high school anymore either. In fact they are married and having kids. SO THERE. :)

When my husband was a kid, his sister made him this bookmark for his scriptures and he still has it to this day in his Book of Mormon. I hope my kids keep these too. They aren't perfect by any means. I'm all about using what I have on hand. But they are special to me.

We'll have to do it again someday when Hailey is old enough to get the activity because I'd like her to have one too. Maybe I'll have her scribble on one and call it good.

Completely Copied FHE

I didn't have anything planned for FHE and Shelly came up with a lesson on the value of work
so I just ran with her idea!

I found this chore chart idea and raided my stash of things I have to kids projects to create this:
Since I was running behind, I just put it all together with a glue gun while we talked to the kids about work. We talked about jobs that they could do and what we would do at the end of the week when all the pockets were full.

To make this project I used:
-Construction paper for the letters (I used my cricket to cut them out fast. So easy)
-Colored craft sticks (found those at the dollar store awhile ago to use in another project.)
-Colored foam sheets (also a dollar store find)
-Black felt (I'd use muslin or something else if I were to make this again. The stick are harder to slide in against the felt. I just used it because that what the one in the picture was made of.)
-Glue gun ( had I thought about it earlier in the day I would have just sewn everything together.)
-Magnets (To hang it all on the fridge)
-Black sharpie (wrote the chores on the foam.)

I'm sure the whole thing is pretty self explanatory. If you have any questions on how I put it together feel free to email me. I really like this set up, we've tried paper charts before but didn't have much luck with them. This way is fun and the kids loved that they got to help put it together and sort the sticks for it. I think they feel more apart of the process than me just always telling them what chores I want them to do.

Thanks again Shelly for the great idea! My kids are really into it already. Hannah cleared her cereal bowl this morning without having to be asked and wanted a stick for the dishes.

You Don't Start Celebrating Halloween on Oct. 1st?

Neither do I. We actually started decorating on Sept 29th this year.
